  It really works! I thought it was a nonsense but it works! Now my LCD camera is working. I was so nervous to bring it to Sony cause it was my problem, I left it to the sun light for 1 hour! But now the LCD is working, thanks a lot!!! It worked!

  I did the steps 3 times and it didnt work, soo i got mad and hit the logo a little harder and it worked, lol. i was about to give it a black and blue charley horse on the 5 try, what did i have to loose camera works without the lcd screen, but its real hard to use without it. and if it would of came to a 6th try , i was gonna use brass knuckles.

    Hi Li: Sony DSC-S40 ‘Quick Fix’ For the white/blank LCD screen issue As discovered by Bob Allen The Allens of Allentown, PA USA I recommend that you remove the batteries and make sure you replace them with fresh ones after you apply my ‘Quick Fix’. 1. Hold camera firmly in left hand. 2. Smartly rap front of camera with knuckles of right hand on the "Cyber-shot" logo. Replace the batteries and it will now work.   Thanks! This really did work! I am hoping it keeps on working! It's really frustrating not being able to see the screen! Today was my daughter 1st day of 1st grade...I couldn't see the pics but now I can and they are adorable! Thanks again for the advice. It's amazing how many other people are having this same issue and that sony isn't doing anything about it??? I don't get that! Ah well thanks again!

    Hello Ms. Christy: You are certainly Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to let us know my 'Quick Fix' worked for your Sony DSC-S40 white/blank LCD screen problem. I have no idea why Sony continues to ignore this issue. I have received responses from around the world saying that my 'Quick Fix' has solved someone's problem, so there are plenty of malfunctioning Sony DSC-S40s. Yes, I know what you mean about those back to school pics when the children are just starting to attend school! (Our oldest daughter is in grad school, our son just 'went back to school', he is a Senior at Pitt and our baby, aka the Princess of Darkness, will be going back next week as a high school sophomore.) Boy, time does fly! So glad to hear I was of some assistance for your daughter's happy 1st Day of First Grade!   I'm another one who had the problem, in Thailand this time, with my daughter's camera. It's a nice little camera which takes good pictures but the LCD problem started after about 18 months.
  
  It was great to find the solution here. It worked fine temporarily but the problem would recur after a while. Maybe I wasn't hitting it hard enough!!
  
  Anyway, if it keeps coming back, there's a link to a permanent solution around somewhere (maybe in the middle of all these pages? - but I haven't been through them again). I wasn't going to open it up myself, but my brother-in-law has some camera knowledge and just followed the instructions. It took about 10 minutes and wasn't complicated for someone who has some basic knowledge of the inside of a camera.

  I can hardly believe it. My DSC-S40 gave me a white screen in Photo or playback mode. Searched for "RESET Sony DSC-S40" in Google (cos I thought a reset was what it needed) and first thing there was this article. I held camera in left hand, rapped Cybershot logo with right knuckles and it now works. Bob, it's still a great fix.
