For my case I tried using the Rubber technology to clear the oxidation and also inserting and ejecting 20 -30 times, Both the option failed and i was really cursing the machine. Luckily I tried to change the DUO ADAPTOR, which costs very less. It worked, I do not have any more pbms for now.

You can't repair it. You could return it. Memory Stick Pro doesn't work, so buy a memory card *without the pro*.They just aint compatible.

Yep, the infamous C:13:01 error once again. Losing all my pics!

    Solution?

NEVER buy Sony again. Never recommend Sony again. Use Sony as an example of what NOT to buy.

My Sony Cybershot was the most expensive $500 sony ever made.

I kept getting the error message also, and the camera would freeze when I tried to delete the pictures off. It took me an hour to sort it out, clicking everything possible.
On setup, I changed the REC folder, and hey presto! it works again, no more error messages.

I am using a new DSC-T9 camera and got the error message after taking 100+ pictures on a 1 Gb Memory Stick Pro Duo card. What do I do!! This is horrible. My entire vacation is on that.

I got the same C:13:01 error with "Access" on the screen of my new DSC-T9 Sony camera. I have used the camera and this Memory Stick Pro Duo 1Gb before so I don't know what happened. The problem is that it happened on my vacation to California and all the pictures from my trip were on that card. I am so mad. I never want to buy a Sony camera again. I had an Olympus digital for 3 years and never had a single problem with it.

Hello I have the Cybershot DSC-T1 and got the error E:61.00.
Since Sony is so expensive to repair, I decided to buy another camera. However, after reading the crazy solution offered by some in this forum, I thought what do I have to lose... So I banged the lense with my finger while the camera was off and it did not work. I then decided to drop it while off, on a soft rug and did not work either.
Finally, I thought, what the heck, and turned it on. While it was "accessing" I banged the lense on my knee cap (it did not hurt and got rid of some of my frustration). The error message was gone!!! and I was able to focus, use the lense and take picutures!!!.
    Thanks for this Flinstone solution.

I had the exact same problem. Mine was apparently caused when I dropped it into sand at the beach, and blew on the lens to clean it. Apparently I was too close to the lens, and blew too hard, my breath going IN the lens assembly, and forcing something out of whack. I tried your method, and VOILA! The camera was fine.... Until I turned it off. Since then, it has gone back to error 61:00, and now it makes a buzzing noise while 'Accessing'. No amount of banging will return it to working condition. Oh well. I had assumed it was dead as a doornail already, anyway. P.S. What's up with Sony's 20 different digital camera/camcorder batteries, and new custom A/V/USB ports on every new camera? I got a W100 to replace the T1, and I'm now on my fourth Sony battery type, and, of course, the data plug isn't the same as the T1.

This seriously does work. I just took the battery out, placed it back in and when it was accessing I banged it (not even that hard) against my knee and it now can focus in and out. I almost can't believe that it worked, but it surely did. Thank you.

Thanks so much guys. I got into trouble when I borrowed my fiancees camera under the strict promise that I would not break it. Of course when that is the last thing you say, something always happens. Needless to say, the bang on the knee trick worked perfectly and I would strongly recommend it over the steep cost of returning the camera. If it is something small that knocked the lens out of whack, it should work. However, if you know that is sustained a good solid fall, it might not work Thanks for the help

I just had the same problem and saw your solution and it worked out quite well after banging the camera gently while accessing. I had to do this twice. The first hit fixed my autofocus but not the error. The second hit removed the error message. Thanks a lot for the advice.

I also have DSC-P100 camera And i don-t know why but the other day it gave me E:61:00 error I thought thats it, i need a new camera, other then the error, camera was completely out of focus. So i searched on google and came across this...and ACTUALLY hitting the side, where the lens is, couple of times with my hand, and then turning it off and on and it fixed the problem...HAHAHAHAH

Thank you so much for the advice. I was sightseeing in Czech when I received the error message. I was so distraught. I went online to search for a new camera when I saw that others experienced the same problem with their Sony Cybersot. Sure enough just a few bangs on the side of the camera and Voila, no more error message.

This is so funny. I got the error 61 and the camera was basically dead. I could not do anything as it was locked up (but it would turn on). Anyway, I took it to a camera shop. I was told that SONY would charge more to repair it than what a new camera would cost. Then I Googled "Sony Cyber Shot error 61" and found this forum that told me to take the batteries out and when I turned it back on to bang it against my knee. IT WORKED! Ha.

My sony Cyber-shot suffered an absolutely HORRENDOUS fall onto a concrete floor whilst in a drunken rampage on holiday, but suprisingly it managed to stay in one piece. However, it had the E:61:00, and was horiffically out of focus and the zoom mechanics were completely frozen. So I get home and google this error and find myself here. Tried the knee thing, many times, didnt work. So in one last furious attempt to get it working, I pick it up by the string and swing it into the wall (with quite a damn bit of force might i add), and abracadabra its working almost perfectly again. Unfortunately, I now have to carry out this procedure every time I turn the camera on, because the bloody thing keeps on reverting back to being blurred.

Oh my God! I did what seem like crazy ...bang it, drop it from 2' to the carpet floor, bang it again while it is accessing like you said....I heard some weird sound coming out of the camera...it did not work...I bang it again...I heard some more sound and then ...the sound stop...and...IT WORK! THE FOCUS IS PERFECTLY FINE AS BEFORE! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I love the internet ;-)

Mine just got the same problem. I accidentally dropped my camera on the sand few weeks ago and today I got the error 61. I did exactly the light tapping on the knee as i power on or off the camera. Did a few tries. The first one did not do the trick. But the 4th or 5th time did. So far it's working. It's worth trying. Thanks.

Hello, We just got back from vacation, and while on the beach sand got on the our Sony camera also, the sand thing seems to be a trend on these threads, we shook the camera and tried to clean off the sand, and also got the ERROR message like everyone else. We had our heart set on buying the new Sony and had one all picked out when we remembered to search the web to see if there was a solution to the error message. By golly, it works, I had tried shaking it a little before, because I had nothing lose, but if you access it and then shake or hit it a little, it comes back, Wish I new this I vacation, as I could have kept taking pictures. Amazing that this works, just keep your camera away from sand in the first place. Thanks, to all who have written. Randy

it must have taken me 100 tries before this finally worked. don't be distressed like I was when the first 99 tries are unsuccessful, keep trying different surfaces and slowly increasing how hard you hit. also- i don't know that taking the battery out and waiting until it says "access" make any difference. you can just hit it while its off, with the battery out, might be safer. good luck.

Then I read further into some more of the replies and found the one about removing the batteries. So, I tried that. Removed the batteries, waited, replaced, turned on, smacked on knee. Turned the camera on this morning to find an E61 error message on my 1 week old Sony Cybershot DSC-T70, which suprised me as when I turned it off 8 hours earlier it was fine. Thought I would go online to check out if anyone else had a similar problem and to my surprise there were quite a few. Must admit I didn't really want to hit the lense with my knee, but couldn't be bothered to contact Sony so thought I'd give it a shot, turned the camera on, tapped the side of the camera near the lense with my knuckle and voila, it works! Job done, great post, thanks for the tip! One thought though, why the hell does it do it?

I have the same problem. After reading this I began to bang and hit the camera. My wife came into my office after hearing the noise to see what I was doing. It works, but does not resolve my problem everytime. Each time I turn it on, I get the same error. Now I've been using a hammer. Still, each time I turn it off and back on, I still need to hit it...harder each time.

This was so helpful - I can't even believe it! I spent over $900 for this camera when it first came out. I thought it just reached the end of it's life after 40,000+ pictures. I tried your bang method, and the first time nothing happened. I realized I was banging the lense, not the body. I turned it off and back on again, and I banged the body against my knee - just enough like the doctor does to make it jump - and it worked!!!!!! Thank you all for your contributions!

Went to an electronics store for an estimate on repairs: ¥150 000 (about $150), so I thought I'd check Sony's online handbook for instructions." That turned out to be useless. My last option was to google the error message and I came across this advice. I don't really remember dropping the camera too hard but, then again, who knows. I hand to bang it on my thigh a couple of times. First it went to E:62 and then, SUCCESS! Like brand new. Arigato gozaimasu!

I had the same problem with my camcorder HC-65, and guess what - the "Flintstone rework procedure" worked for me as well. Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences !

Thank you so much!! After numerous attempts to have the camera repaired we took your advise and simply hit the camera on my husbands knee and BAM the camera is perfect now.

Initially, I thought this might be a silly prank to get all of us simpletons to inflict bruises on our own knees. But, holy cow! It actually worked!
